Soap

I've made soap. I like it, so I'm going to share it.

It's lye soap. I find calculating the amount of lye, and oil interesting. The general equation is:

(Amount of Fat) ร— (Saponification Value of the Fat) = (Amount of Lye)
(Amount of Lye) รท 0.3 = (Total Weight of Lye Water Solution)
(Total Weight of Lye Water Solution) โˆ’ (Amount of Lye) = (Amount of Water)

I'm not certain where the 0.3 comes from, but from what I've read it's up to preference (30-35%) .

I've just recently been experimenting with scents, and oil quantities. Speaking of oil quantities, super fatting (adding more oil than is called by the recipe) is necessary. Too little oil and your soap is harsh, and probably still caustic (insert Fight Club scene here). Scents. So far I've done coffee, citruses, orange vanilla, tea tree and eucalyptus,ย
